Women Wednesday: Carly Zimbone

We love sharing our inspirational women with you every Wednesday and this week’s inspiration is an incredibly determined young woman. Carly Zimbone, CEO of TheEmpowerist see’s beauty in everything and has transformed her dreams into reality. Today she confidently impacts society by promoting a balanced lifestyle, positivity and healthy recipes!

How did you come up with TheEmpowerist?

TheEmpowerist defines my passion for growing, expanding & understanding one’s limitless potential. When I was five years old I wanted to be an astronaut because this idea of reaching for the stars inspired me. Just ten years later, my career desires shifted, in 2013 – I knew I wanted to own my own business, under one circumstance and goal, this business must leave a positive impact on society. I love keeping options in life open, remaining optimistic, taking risks & seeing what these experiences lead to. In beginning the next chapter of my story at the University of Tampa in 2014, I created the goal to live a balanced lifestyle by harmonizing academics, career, fitness, travel & nourishment. I maintained a mindful presence throughout my freshman year & at the end of my first semester I decided there is no better time than now to spread my ideas to other individuals who are beginning a brand new experience & are in need of guidance. I decided to choose living balanced as my goal because traveling & living in a new destination, meant that I was stripped of my routine priorities. Each day, I listened to how my body feels & focused on a soulful eating mentality. I strived for a consistent routine & over time my energy & passions were flourishing. I continued to feel amazing and evolved my clean eating Instagram: drive_thrive_alive into what I call TheEmpowerist. I have grown to understand that a downfall is not a defining moment, what defines you is how you choose to react: let it inspire you & choose to grow rather than allowing it to interrupt your journey. TheEmpowerist is a lifestyle blog I created in order to empower others to discover an enriched life filled with health, harmony & passion. TheEmpowerist approaches all challenges as opportunities in disguise & explores different directions with a mindset that no decision is the wrong decision. TheEmpowerist is on a mission to guide ambitious individuals to creating a consistent routine that compliments their desired lifestyle. TheEmpowerist leads with the mentality that no decision is the wrong decision because regardless of the outcome, the experience is consistently positive, as the growing process will enrich the individual’s life. The mission I aim to spread is Stay Empowered!

Who is Carly Zimbone?

Hello there! Let me begin by introducing myself, my name is Carly Zimbone & I am happy you are here & now, reading this. Carly is an ambitious individual that thrives off of spreading positivity, pushing her comfort zone, & creating new connections. Carly has continuously overcome life’s most uncertain moments & believes in celebrating life’s beautiful achievements & simple moments. You can find Carly exploring the community, in the kitchen cooking & creating beautiful meals for a cooking soirée with family & friends, or immersing herself in nature’s beauty. I value an eclectic variety of passions as I have always practiced an, “always be learning” mentality. A few things I love are being surrounded by smiles, cinnamon spice, chirping birds, running, watercolor painting, flying on an airplane with a window seat view, beautiful aromas, reading, & cooking salmon.

What are somethings that you do to nourish your body to ensure that you are motivated and prepared for a new week?

Nourishing your body in order to prepare for a week filled with productivity is essential. There are a few key actions I take in order to prepare. Each day I make sure to touch upon my passions in order to continue this journey of balanced living. On Sundays, I enjoy waking up early & beginning with a glass of warmed lemon water. Lemon water is a lovely way to begin your day with a clear mind. Additionally, the citrus will cleanse your system. Hot coffee & a balanced breakfast follows. I love a balanced meal complete with colors. Each morning I write my gratitude in that present moment & my intentions for the day that follows. I love lighting a candle & cleaning the home in order to create an organized environment around me. By this time, I am energized & ready for a reflective workout. Later in the day, I will prepare a few meal options to grab & go throughout my week, organize my planner & respond to emails and inquiries. I make sure to get a restful sleep to ensure my mind is well rested for the day that follows.

If you could give someone (who is trying to find balance in their life) advice, what would it be?

For someone who is on the road of discovering balance within their daily life, I would explain that the key to living balanced is being self-aware. Being in touch with yourself as an individual allows you to understand what experiences generate happiness within your life, you hold yourself & no one else accountable for your happiness. It is important to understand your passions & touch upon them daily in order to feel alive. Additionally, focusing on harmonizing various aspects of your life will enable you to live life balanced. Creating a life filled with nourishment, new experiences, challenges, celebrations & fun. If you are feeling off then take a moment, step back & write it out. Write out what is in your mind & what you are grateful for. This is living balanced & never forget that you are the creator of your destiny! Celebrate life often & live life soulfully.

Share with us your favorite breakfast, lunch, and dinner recipes: #soulfuleating

Breakfast – Breakfast is easily my favorite meal because it marks the start of a brand new day. I am someone who wakes up with a sweet tooth, I will share with you my seasonable Apple Crisp Oats – simple, clean & gluten free!

  1. ½ cup of old fashioned oats
  2. 1 tbsp of chia seeds
  3. 1 cup of water
  4. 1 tbsp of cashew or coconut milk
  5. 1 Fuji apple
  6. dash of cinnamon
  7. drizzle of coconut nectar or honey
  8. 1 tbsp of Justin’s maple almond butter

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl place oats, cinnamon, water & chia. Microwave for two minutes.
  2. Dice fuji apple
  3. Stir oatmeal & add drizzle of coconut nectar, dash of cinnamon, tablespoon of cashew milk. Top with Justin’s almond butter & diced apples.
  4. Voila! Enjoy your creamy apple crisp oats – this breakfast is filled with omega-3s, protein, healthy fats, complex carbs & fiber. You will feel so alive & prepared for the day.

Lunch – For lunch, I love a delicious hearty salad! We digest raw ingredients best in the afternoon & cooked ingredients best in the evening. I love a salad filled with greens, edamame, roasted beets, pecans, diced sweet potato, diced avocado & drizzled with a honey balsamic vinaigrette. I typically have snacks throughout the day in order to maintain constant energy. I enjoy Lara bars, hardboiled eggs, apples, Kind bars, or veggies with hummus.

Dinner – My dinner specialty is grilled salmon topped with mango salsa! I love cooking this dinner for friends & family.

  1. 4 0z. of fresh Atlantic salmon
  2. ¼ cup of cooked quinoa
  3. 1 cup of spinach
  4. 1 lime
  5. ¼ cup of diced red onion
  6. ½ diced mango
  7. 1 tbsp of chopped arugula
  8. ½ diced avocado
  9. ½ diced red bell pepper
  10. Small handful of roasted cashews

For the salmon –

  1. Squeeze ½ fresh lime juice & top salmon with freshly cracked sea salt & pepper.
  2. Place salmon skin side down onto grill set on high heat. Allow salmon to cook skin side down for five minutes until skin is crisp.
  3. Carefully flip salmon and cook for 1 minute, the salmon should still appear pink on the inside at this point.
  4. Finish cooking salmon in the oven on high broil. Allow the top of the salmon to crisp for 1 minute – 1 minute & 30 seconds. High broil will bake the salmon quickly on high heat.

For the salsa

  1. Place diced avocado, red pepper, red onion, mango & cilantro into a bowl. Add in fresh squeezed lime & place into the fridge.

For the salad –

  1. Place spinach & quinoa into a bowl. Toss together & add in cashews.
  2. Drizzle with a honey balsamic vinaigrette

Prepare –

Serve salad onto a plate and top with grilled salmon. Top salmon with fresh sea salt, pepper & homemade mango salsa & fresh cilantro and enjoy! Feel free to customize this dish – add blueberries, peach, pineapple, etc.
